Electromagnetic water flowmeters

Magnetic (mag) flowmeters are normally a strong choice for conductive water and wastewater, including many lines with suspended solids. Specify minimum liquid conductivity, electrode and liner materials, grounding, full-pipe conditions, accuracy and process connection. Standard mag meters do not measure non-conducting diesel or oils.

Clamp-on and in-line ultrasonic water flowmeters

Clamp-on ultrasonic metering can help retrofit an existing pressurized water pipe without intrusive installation, provided the liquid, pipe and acoustic path are suitable. In-line ultrasonic options can serve permanent water monitoring. Include the actual pipe outside diameter, wall thickness, liner, material and straight-run constraints.

Water distribution and remote telemetry

Battery and externally powered instruments may be appropriate for utility metering and remote sites. Confirm whether the remote link is Modbus, pulse, NB-IoT, LTE, LoRaWAN or a site SCADA protocol; not every model supports every option. Power autonomy, underground submergence rating, alarm coverage and maintenance access should be evaluated.

Line size and system-design request

Typical engineering enquiries include DN25, DN50, DN80, DN100, DN150, DN200, DN250, DN300, DN400, DN600, DN800 and DN1200, with larger diameters handled as application-specific designs. Include actual line schedule and operating flow to avoid oversizing. For example, a high-capacity pump header may need a very different design from a low-flow municipal branch even if nominal sizes are similar.

Examples of relevant established product families include Endress+Hauser Promag W 400, Siemens SITRANS FM MAG 8000, and KROHNE WATERFLUX, OPTIFLUX and OPTISONIC product families. Exact model selection, sensor/converter pairing, power, pressure class, material and approvals must be checked against the manufacturer’s documentation.

What to attach to an RFQ

• P&ID or instrument datasheet and water quality / process medium
• Nominal and actual pipe dimensions, flange specification and installation drawing
• Minimum/normal/maximum flow, pressure and operating temperature
• Hazardous area if any, ingress protection, power supply and outputs
• Requirement for calibration, field verification, network communications and reporting
• Quantity, facility location, timeline and any nominated OEM model
